sam jacob / FAT – ‘duplicate array: buildings / places / objects’ MAK, vienna april 14th to june 13th, 2010

british designer and architect sam jacob is the founder of architects’ group FAT (fashion architecture taste). for FAT, architecture and design are channels of expression and communication for social issues and cultural themes. their exhibition ‘duplicate array: buildings / places / objects’ at MAK will provide an overview of the work done by the london-based group. organized into three levels, the show will be devoted to addressing the topics of ‘landscape’, ‘figuration’ and the issue of ‘architecture as information’. held within the institution’s design space, various architectural models and suggestions for new concepts of urbanism will be showcased, in addition to subtle and subversive design pieces, such as jacob’s ‘soft hercules’ stool.

in conjunction with the opening of the exhibition, jacob will be presenting a lecture entitled ‘london: the right kind of wrong’ in which he will discuss why his home city is currently regarded as a global center and plays a major role in contemporary and pioneering design. his thesis will speak of the successful and profitable british co-optation and redesign of global cultures. his examples of this will range from the history of design and architecture to strategies from punk, pop and post-modernism. his lecture will be held on aprtil 13th, 2010 at 7pm in the MAK lecture hall.
