nutritious serum gives plants stunning night effects

France-based start-up Aglaé has invented a nutritive serum that enables plants to illuminate under blacklight. Made without any genetic modification or chemical additives, the biodegradable elixir is absorbed by the plants, which causes them to emit light for almost three months. With this formula, whose receipt maintains secret, the plants are ‘magically’ transformed into fluorescent artwork, offering unique and sensorial experiences in dark places.

conjunction between art and science

According to the team, the transformation process is eco-designed and not harmful to the environment while it takes place in their laboratory. The serum is soaked by the plant by capillary action and reveals natural veins of petals and leaves, which create intricate luminescent patterns. ‘This technology enhances the beauty of flowers and foliage. Thanks to it, they display a new aesthetic by revealing magnificent veins and colored shades, from purple to blue/green,’ shares the design team.

This applies to plants such as cut flowers, green plants, or stabilized roots. In the future, the innovative team aims to develop alternative and electricity-free light solutions that could light up even our city just from the light of the trees.
