designed by architecture office 5G studio, the ‘legacy ER’ in allen, texas unites an emergency room and urgent care facility under a distinguishing angular roof. the visually dynamic qualities of the folded-form structure serve to create an identity for the building, which merges two vital and typically separated program elements. the project houses a 7,632 square-foot area in a singular rectangular volume enclosed by concrete and glass walls. the sculptural roof sits atop, and is composed of perforated metal panels.

the expressive nature of the building’s exterior is complemented by soothing interior environments, which serve patients whom are often in distressed situations. skylights above the hallway and nurse station provide ample daylight, while a subtle material palette is utilized, with white walls and ceilings, wood accents, and frosted glass partitions.
