commissioned by a hot spring and mineral resort, vietnamese practice a21studio has completed a small spa perched upon the incline of hill near nha trang city. oriented to face an adjacent river, ‘the tent’ offers a place for relaxation, isolated from the site’s other, more physical activities.

a steep thatched roof prevents sunlight from entering the enclosure, protecting occupants from the region’s intense heat. the eaves of the canopy are carefully positioned as not to disrupt views out of the structure – either towards the passing river or the city center. local materials such as dry-stacked stones and coconut leaves are used alongside rocks, reinforced steel and a variety of tiles, lending the project an organic and native quality. internally, the program is divided across two levels. an upper storey contains a private bedroom, surrounded by wooden frames and colored glazing, while downstairs, a mineral-based infinity pool stretches out towards the edge of the site.
