AA school of architecture creates terracotta pyramid installation for samuel ross’ NIKE collection

the new NIKE capsule collection by fashion designer samuel ross has been unveiled in london against a landscape of 4,000 tiny terracotta pyramids, created the architectural association (AA) school of architecture. dubbed ‘clayscape’, the installation was exhibited inside NIKE’s 1948 retail space, for the launch of NIKE x A-COLD-WALL*.

the installation by AA school of architecture invites visitors to step on the small clay structures, eventually crushing them and leaving a pile of rubble in their place. at the center of the space, right above ‘clayscape’, the four newly launched garments – a pair of trainers, a parka, a long-sleeved top, and a pair of trousers – were displayed on a curved structure made up of pointy metal beams.

the aim of the project was to demonstrate how an object changes over time, in order to create an interaction between the space and visitors. quite poetically, the installation starts as a series of clay instruments, waiting to be walked on, jogged on, and played into beats and a subsequent sound, and finish as an artifact, or a visual soundscape.
