the city of salamanca, in villares de la reina, spain is home to ABLM arquitectos’ captivating school building. the project, referred to as the ‘almost invisible school’ is in reference to the exterior’s cladding of side-by-side mirrored panels. the sky, trees, and surrounding structure are reflected in the façade, figuratively embedding the building — photographed here by miguel de guzmán — into the existing landscape.

ABLM’s façade complements the reflective elements of the façade with strong and exciting colors along the first level’s exterior. made up of seven tones, it was created by toni cumella to symbolize the equality within the safe space of the school. almost like magic, from specific angles it looks as if the structure’s second floor has disappeared entirely. in the last decade, the city has undergone rapid changes. the design and completion of the new school marks a moment of positive growth in the area.
