ACTIU technology park recognized as leader of sustainable design

globally renowned for their characterful and ergonomic furniture for work and contract spaces, ACTIU can now be recognized as a leader in sustainability in europe as well. located in alicante, spain, the ACTIU technology park has been awarded with the LEED platinum certificate, owing to the headquarter’s complete self-sufficiency. included in this, as their manufacturing processes are considered under sustainability and efficiency criteria, their products, such as the ‘bend‘ seating, ‘mobility‘ desk and ‘TNK‘ chairs, each represent environmental-friendliness additionally.

 

 

as the only medium-sized industrial company to be awarded the leadership in energy and environmental design (LEED) platinum certificate by the US green building council, the achievement of the ACTIU technology park is appraised even more so as the construction is 10 years old. according to vicent berbegalpresident of ACTIU group, ‘this certification is usually given to new buildings that are built ad hoc. it’s unusual for a facility like ours, which is almost 10 years old, to not only receive this recognition, but to be granted the highest category.’

 

 

atop the roof of the vast headquarter lines one of the largest photovoltaic plants on an industrial building in the continent. it generates an immense 47,701 MW of clean energy over a six year period, five times that needed to run the facilities and can power 3,500 homes and save 3,060 tonnes of CO2 per annum. furthermore, the roofs are tailored to collect rainwater and irrigate this to three underground tanks that can store a total of 9,550 cubic meters and noursih the park’s greenery.

 

 

‘as well as a greater respect for the environment, we have made significant economic savings in electricity costs, water consumption, air conditioning and heating. with this certificate, we have become the first medium-sized industrial company to achieve this recognition in spain’ explains vicent berbegal. ‘this seal represents and endorsement of the fact that we’ve been doing things right. in addition, in view of our international presence, it represents a guarantee that an industry of value exists in this territory that is sensitive to environmental responsibility.’

 

 

created by josé maría tomás llavador, from the outset the center’s buildings have been designed to make the most of natural light, comprising of expansive skylights in the roofs and countless windows adorning the façades. this brightens the already crisp and clean white interiors of the offices, as well as the lobbies, warehouses and storerooms.
