settling within a suburban area in lithuania, architecture office AFTER PARTY has realized a residence that adopts an eye-catching sloping volumetry. the site is squeezed between two neighboring dwellings on the south, while a fragrant meadow descends to a lush creek on the north.

the two opposing conditions that the site is facing led AFTER PARTY to design a volume as if sliced in half, covered with a layer of grass to shelter the living space underneath. aiming to enrich and highlight the local biodiversity, the inclined roof is blooming with herbs and flowers, creating a continuous green vista from the banks of the river. together with that, the sliced formation makes sure that the river-facing backyard on the north enjoys undisturbed sunshine all day long.

the structure is interrupted by a large terrace that frames the river as if it were an additional room outside the house. covered with warm wood flooring, this area encourages occupants to walk on it barefoot and enjoy the open sky. inhabitants can enjoy peace and quiet in the open space, right next to a lush vegetable garden situated within the premises.

the interior is clad in white, acting as an ascetic background filled with a mindful selection of furniture pieces and objects, each carrying its own unique story. the generous living environment opens up to the natural surroundings and the river, with the north oriented windows providing maximum views. meanwhile, on the southern side, the large upper floor opening ensures quality light and warmth throughout the colder months.

a rather pragmatic elevation towards the road is covered with rough brushed plaster enhancing the inclination of the slope and reacting to a more urban setting of neighboring houses. dubbed ‘the house and the river’, the project refuses to be fenced off, becoming one with the surrounding context, as a continuous part of nature. freeing itself from worthless things, it aims to inspire a lifestyle of cherishing the experience of living instead of possessions.
