agora arquitectura transforms its 'house with a patio between two terraces' in barcelona

agora arquitectura presents its intervention within the attic of a 19th century residence in barcelona’s neighborhood of sants. the interior volume is set back from both the front and rear facades of the heritage building, generating two terraces that introduces more light and air to the interior patio-like space. these terraces are modified with the changing use of the building. once a community space, the terrace along the southern street-facing side had been previously accessed exclusively through a shared staircase. this public access is removed while two widows are transformed into doors to offer private access from the interior.

barcelona-based studio agora arquitectura transforms the attic apartment to introduce its ‘house with a patio between two terraces.’ turning to the northern terrace, facing away from the street, the design team demolish the overlapping walls that had been gradually built up, eliminating the character of the space. the original condition is rediscovered and restored, once again providing air and light to the interior rooms. these architectural adjustments creates a condition in which the living spaces float between two exterior zones, spaces which are likely for the first time in direct connection with the interior. it is at that moment that the ‘patio of lights’ seems to generate interest.
