‘sobremesa’ which translates to ‘over the table’ in spanish is the name of airbnb and pedro&juana‘s interactive installation created for this year’s design miami/ event. the project explores the concept of co-habitation of a shared indoor/outdoor space. the concept itself stems from latin american culture, embodying the amount of time people spend together lingering around after a meal to share conversation.

set in a house-like structure, the installation designed by mexico city-based design studio pedro&juana offers a lively gathering point, inviting visitors to come in and actively participate in its shared creation. visitors can help ‘build’ the scheme by adding to it with a series of colorful tiles. with each tile, visitors have the opportunity to commemorate their experience within the space by permanently altering the structure and leaving a personal mark. the space will transform over the week, becoming increasingly dynamic the more people interact with it and additionally, the designers will host a series of ‘sobremesas’ inside, inviting visitors to share in food, drink, music, and connection.
