situated in a residential neighborhood of tokyo, akio takatsuka of japanese practice aaat has sought to introduce the themes of light, sound and nature within this three storey home. the dwelling, titled ‘well’, is located in front of six railway lines, which expose the house to noise from the passing trains. consequently, the residence is enclosed behind thick load-bearing white walls that not only provide acoustic protection, but also ensure that internal space is open and column-free.

internally, the majority of daylight enters from above, with triangular openings placed between the stacked volumes. over time, a secluded courtyard positioned at the lower level of the scheme will be filled with rich vegetation bringing a sense of greenery and nature inside the urban home.
