exposed masonry and corrugated metal sheeting makes up alberto facundo’s ‘la caseta’

spanish studio alberto facundo arquitectura completes its ‘la caseta’ house as an expression of raw materials. the design team looks to the site near valencia as the starting point for this project, seeking to promote the traditional mediterranean lifestyle of the context. this origin of the country house is understood as a point of gathering and space for disconnection and relaxation, is intimately linked to its natural environment, the valencian orchard. the team comments: ‘the line of action is determined by the elimination of elements added over time, trying to find the essence of their origin. conservation has therefore been the fundamental premise that has guided each of the solutions adopted.’

alberto facundo arquitectura introduces its ‘la caseta’ with a material palette that is both sincere and austere. this materiality of rough exposed masonry together with corrugated steel sheets is used as a simple mechanism that maintains the identity of the project as a traditional country house. the rooms, punctuated with small punch windows, focus the light and the framed views, leaving the finishes in the background as an irrelevant form. on the ground floor, the openings are focused towards the south where the viewer finds the most sweeping view outward of all its facades.

the design team at alberto facundo arquitectura comments on the design of its ‘la caseta’ house in valencia: ‘a forever concept, in a traditional place, to be with those of always. but giving a complete twist to everything and reinventing each of its parts to create our own version of the country house.’
