alejandro sticotti's 'la pedrera' holiday home in uruguay takes in views of the atlantic ocean

photographer cristóbal palma has shared his images of a holiday home that argentinian architect alejandro sticotti designed for himself and his family. the property is located in ‘la pedrera’, a seaside resort in uruguay on the atlantic ocean. ‘we currently live in buenos aires, but we travel a lot to la pedrera to vacation, relax, go to the beach, cook, read and paint,’ explains sticotti. ‘we used to spend all our summers there in the last 20 years, and as soon as I found this land it was love at first sight.’

located in the center of the small town, ‘la pedrera house’ is just a five minute walk from the beach. made from a combination of concrete and wood, sticotti oriented the two-storey building to take in sea views. the ground floor contains a large kitchen and dining area that spills out onto a deck at the rear of the home, while the upper level accommodates the living room as well as the master bedroom with sea views. meanwhile, a separate guest house in the backyard contains two additional bedrooms.

although the house was completed in 2015, alejandro sticotti says that the property remains in a constant state of design. ‘it’s hard to say we finished when you’re the architect of your own home,’ he acknowledges. the entire house was custom made, including the furniture which was designed and manufactured by the STICOTTI firm. the architect says that many of the house’s details can be attributed to his wife mercedes, who is a graphic designer. see more projects photographed by cristóbal palma on designboom here.
