the chihuly collection at the morean arts center is a new permanent gallery showcasing the work of glass artist dale chihuly designed by alfonso architects. the project features over 10,000 square feet of space located in st. petersburg, florida. the space was built inside and existing concrete shell by the architects who work collaboratively with chihuly. the artist and architects chose to not use traditional drywall, instead opting for steel, cyprus wood and venetian plaster. the navigation of the gallery is free form, allowing visitors to experience the space in a variety of ways. there are multiple winding portals each converging at the central chandelier gallery. because of the unique collaboration between the artist and architect each gallery is unique to the pieces inside it.
