designed by bangkok-based architecture practice all(zone), ‘phra pradeang house’ is located in a community populated with small dwellings and connected by small streets. however, the neighborhood is continually transforming with larger buildings becoming more commonplace. in response to the brief, the design team sought to maximize the value of a small plot of land, while ensuring that the new structure responded to its immediate context.

all(zone) arranged the home’s internal activities around a ‘central well’, which is modeled after the tropical region’s shophouses. this void promotes natural ventilation and brings diffused sunlight into each room. the building is clad with custom-made concrete blocks, which wrap around the structure’s perimeter. this cladding — which was produced with a local manufacturer — not only provides varying scales of privacy, but also helps integrate the building within the neighborhood.
