FSF – sports and leisure center, a new gem in austrian village

20 years after its first project for the village of fließ in tyrol, austria, architectural firm alleswirdgut now completes another municipal gem for the tyrolean community. the FSF – sports and leisure center features a new clubhouse for the local soccer team, tournament and training grounds with spectator stands, tennis and athletics facilities, as well as a renovated and newly-expanded swimming pool. with more than 15,000 hours of voluntary work, the project represents a successful example of how out-migration in rural communities can be effectively counteracted.

a structural volume defined by horizontally suspended planes

topography and site layout required sensitive interventions and an economical use of the available space. the team at alleswirdgut therefore suspended horizontally floating planes – the guiding principle of the design – on, above and at the edges of the slope. this technique is articulated in the design of the clubhouse as well. through this striking sequence of structural elevations, the eye-catching volume of the sports center sits on the terraced alpine slope, while the basement and ground floors firmly embed themselves into the landscape.

the ground floor level accommodates locker rooms, premises for trainers and referees, showers and restrooms. meanwhile, covered outdoor stairs lead visitors from the main entrance at pitch level to the upper floor where a pavilion-like volume hosts the club restaurant with a bar and dining area. the pavilion has full-height glazing and an all-around balconied terrace overlooking what is happening on the pitch and offering a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view.
