thailand-based architecture studio all(zone) has completed the immense industrial headquarters of duriflex in a neighborhood on the outskirts of bangkok. for decades, its production of made-to-order pieces has been leading the furniture market of the capital city. its growing dead stock resulted in this expansion project: a new warehouse space for the display and storage of duriflex furniture pieces for walk-in visitors.

the expansion of duriflex’s warehouse by all(zone) is enclosed by two light-weight structural vaults made of folded metal sheets. continuing the industrial language of its context, the project is expressed primarily with utilitarian elements, as seen in the vaulting which makes minimal use of material substance for such a long-spanned coverage, enclosing the main spaces on both levels. the small vault serves as the main entrance and loading area, leading visitors to the upper level on which the collection of duriflex pieces are arranged on display.

all(zone) continues to integrate the warehouse within the surrounding bangkok neighborhood with the application of local materials. harsh tropical sunlight is filtered through a porous skin of translucent and opaque louvers, allowing for natural ventilation throughout the lofty interior. with this strategy, the building consumes no energy during the daytime. among the company’s material supply is a wooden log believed to house a local spirit, a blessing protector revered by the factory workers. this supernatural object is displayed with a prominent position along the front facade, expressed as the spiritual pillar of the building, supporting, protecting, and bringing fortune to the team.
