alts design office transforms warehouse into workspace japan designboom

japanese architecture practice ALTS design office has transformed a warehouse into a multipurpose office space called ‘omihihachiman’ that is open and can generate different types of interactions. the client was looking for a working area where group work was encouraged, as well as conversations and meetings. under this premises, the studio decided to design the program as if it was a miniature garden inside the warehouse, organizing everything around a central focal point that contains a tree.

four kinds of house-shaped booths were placed by ALTS design office along the central area, resulting in a space that gathers the community. the overall feeling is that of being in a city in spite of being indoors. in order to create a unique view, each structure was designed with different size, shape, and color, depending on their use. the aim of the space is to create a calm atmosphere that invites people to work and communicate with others.
