fala atelier: alvenaria modular social housing, lisbon

in a quest to seek a new identity for the ‘alvenaria’ neighbourhood in lisbon, portugal, the social housing proposal by filipe magalhães + ana luisa soares of fala atelier provides an intervention capable of resolving the socioeconomic in-differences of the current area and site. the concept encompasses the surrounding volumes as a static solution; cubic modules measuring 2.55m define the zone, with variations and multiples that allow for future expansion and further development. the exterior implements a prefabricated metal structure, with a white facade acting as a backdrop for communal activities. inside, each resident would define their own micro-interior configuration, with balconies that extend over the street and small cultivation spaces that add contrast and color to the surrounding landscape.
