‘american copper’ is a two-tower residential skyscraper currently under construction in new york’s kips bay neighborhood. designed by SHoP architects, the scheme is set to complete in 2017. strikingly, the two high-rise structures are connected at the 28th floor with a two-story sky bridge that will feature an indoor lap pool and lounge area. between them, the two towers will contain 761 residential units.

working alongside JDS development group, SHoP sought to bring a sense of identity to an area of manhattan that it says is currently ‘visually underutilized’. ‘the bold and iconic design of the towers brings an energetic and inspirational tone to an area that is visually underutilized,’ explain the architects. ‘capitalizing on the unique location and potential of the site, the development will serve as an important inspiration for future innovative growth in its neighborhood and along the east river.’

the copper-clad towers contain a wide range of amenities and facilities, including a rooftop deck, a fitness center, and a film screening room. SHoP is also designing the interiors for all residences, including millwork, cabinetry and unit finishes, as well as the furnishing and finishes for all of the building’s amenities, lobbies, corridors, and other public spaces. the unveiling of the interiors coincides with the development’s new website, while the leasing office will open to the public early next year.
