korea-based AND studio proposes a memorial hall to pay homage to the victims of the sewol ferry sinking that occurred three years ago. a devastating number of people, including 304 students, have died in this disaster. as a result, the president of south korea has been impeached to highlight the government’s incompetence in such situations. in fact, only very recently has the remnants of the ferry been dug up from the sea.

the sinking of the sewol ferry and lifting it back from under the sea after 3 years
according to AND studio, the marine crash has not gotten the full attention it deserved; by proposing the sewol memorial hall, the designers hope to extend the memory of this event and its victims for a long time. the building design is imagined as a yellow ribbon motif with a garden of chrysanthemum flowers. the motif is a direct representation of the one used to honor the fallen victims of the ferry disaster while the chrysanthemums deeply symbolize the act of honoring and remembering the ones who’ve passed.
