french practice archi5 has recently completed ‘antony’, a multi-sport complex for the public which responds to the built context of antony, a town south of paris, france. a landmark within the surrounding disorder, the monolithic form draws attention with its gently rising profile, angling above the ground plane. a glass enclosed entryway appears beneath the lifted stone-clad volume. surfacing the rooftop, a green landscape spotted with skylights introduces daylight into the gymnasium spaces, making up for the building’s windowless elevation and offering a hanging square for people to lounge upon.

the interior supports programs for fencing, table tennis, dance, combat areas and a range of activities. the compact configuration maximizes the natural illumination from above while vertical glazing panels allow light to be controlled and adapted to the specific sport at hand.
