this two storey home in mexico city has been built on an area of land between two recently constructed properties. named ‘casa LPZ’, the scheme has been designed by arqmov workshop for an elderly couple who had two primary requirements: firstly, that there was minimal visual contact with the neighboring houses, and that daily life should be contained to a single level to ensure easy accessibility. after considering the clients’ requirements, site orientation, and climatic conditions, the design team proposed an uncomplicated form with double-height interior spaces.

in order to guarantee seclusion, the house is elevated above the passing street. all living accommodation is found at ground level, including a spacious bedroom at the rear of the property. communal spaces are organized around the dwelling’s sheltered garden with an open-plan lounge adjoining an external terrace. each room is oriented to make the best use of sunlight throughout the day. the upper storey contains a gym and a guest bedroom. the architects chose only natural materials for the project, including natural stone and timber, travertine marble, volcanic stone, walnut, granite, and tempered glass.
