in belo horizonte, brazilian practice arquitetos associados has completed the interior design of ‘olga nur’ — a restaurant in the city’s lourdes district. the project is defined by its distinctive ceiling, where almost 80,000 dowels are suspended from the roof canopy. cut to different lengths, the wooden rods create an inverted wave-like topography, establishing diverse perceptions of space.

programmed to attract passersby, the exterior of the restaurant features bright orange chairs, different types of wood and a range of fabrics. once inside, a more strict color palette is applied with black lacquer complementing steel and glazed elements. the architects were also responsible for the design of steel shelving units, used to store wine, and the scheme’s pine bar stools. through promoting a clear distinction between an intimate interior and an informal exterior, the restaurant seeks to encourage a natural integration with the streetscape, inviting potential diners inside the compact eatery.

  • Wow…how much of wood is used, 80,000 pcs r actually used…only in veiling…other furniture and other areas… just imagine, how much might have wasted in making this.
Dear Arch. are you going to leave some wood – jungle for next generation?.
