atelier deshaus construct huaxin wisdom hub in shanghai

located within shanghai’s central science and tech park, stands the huaxin wisdon hub – a communication and discussion center designed and realised by architecture studio atelier deshaus. the project which is divided into four parts – is interrupted by intersecting paths and bridges that lead into the site, establishing a regular rhythm between interior and exterior. the overall structure uses a ring-shaped suspending concrete wall that has been embellished with circular inserts, forming a scattered pattern upon the surface.

huaxin wisdom hub is connected with the office building by pedestrian walkways

the building consists of multifunction rooms, conference spaces and various exhibition areas. the interior establishes a subtle contrast between the white painted exterior of the construction, using a wood-grain texture in a smooth cool grey. the walls of the hub tilt outwards in order to intensify the sense of tension contained with the small space. atelier deshaus responded to the ‘cramped area’ of the site by using a sloped roof, in order to not obstruct the buildings behind. the neutral yet stark nature of the design, captures daylight and sharp shadows in harmonious display, providing a relaxed environment for visitors to discuss interesting topics relating to science and technology.
