atelier pierre louis gerlier adds leafy green furniture and round doorways to house in paris

atelier pierre louis gerlier had the opportunity to transform a 19th century house in paris into a modern and colorful atmosphere for a family. the designers first had to restore the house’s existing structure – changing joists in the living room, reinforcing key beams, and renovating the roof. after the structural overhaul, a vibrant material palette and bold colors were splashed throughout the spaces resulting in a bright and open residence.

atelier pierre louis gerlier reorganized the house’s existing layout to create wider living areas that merge spaces together. to make space for new rooms, the designers had to remove load-bearing walls, and had to open new windows to allow in natural light and ventilation. the residence is organized throughout three floors and maintains the same simple yet modern aesthetic throughout.

the lower level is reserved for children with two bedrooms, a bathroom, a toilet and a laundry room. the second level overlooks the garden and serves as the welcome area and vestibule to the house. finally, the attic is the parents’ haven with a large bedroom and own bathroom.

custom carpentry work was commissioned throughout the house. the living room has a floor-to-ceiling olive green shelf, that adds a pop of color to the area. the staircase is surrounded by a piece of furniture through which the other rooms can be accessed, and a bookcase that contrasts in colour and lightness frames a newly created fireplace. to finish the interiors, the architects gave  texture to the ceilings with cornices and wooden battens, bringing back liveliness to the old house.
