argentinean practice atot arquitectos (arquitectos todo terreno) has recently completed the delta cabin on one of the ‘islas del tigre’ near buenos aires, argentina. the project can be considered as a combination of spaces: a primitive space, object-place- recreational space, contemplative space, and a pragmatic space. the structure is broken up into three levels organized around a regular three-dimensional structural grid, each with its own relationship to the surrounding and immediate site. the ground level consists of slender peripheral concrete columns on a sub-grade footing system, with a single staircase leading upstairs. the space is covered yet remains entirely open to each side providing a semi-protected shelter forming part of any activities occurring around the site. the next level contains an enclosed space sheathed in locally-sourced corrugated metal sheets and and floor-to-ceiling glass panels. views are still existent but the opaque metal sheets provide more privacy for the living spaces: bedroom, living room, and bathroom. the rooftop is characterized by a slender steel canopy structure divided into fourths and covered in only two sections with spaced wooden slats. from this space, the site is best understood in its larger scale.
