A+U lab has transformed the lobby of a building through a temporary installation of 58 vertical suspended planes composed of 12,000 wool threads. reshaping the once static and lifeless area into a vibrant transient space, woolscape invites passersby to navigate within, and around the structure, through an ensemble of colorful lines composed against a backdrop of light, people, and architecture.

with the aim to utilize wool as a device that engages the viewer with the shape and perception of space, A+U lab has created a box-shaped structure formed by a succession of wool thread layers. the korean studio explores the architectural notions of superimposition, flatness versus depth, and space versus object, through a colorful gradient that combines yellow, orange, and red strings kept in place using wooden sticks.

‘architects are increasingly experimenting with non-conventional building materials, seeking to explore new possibilities in design,’ notes A+U lab, ‘often, the most enticing aspect of such endeavor lies in the utilization of a given material as a spatial device and the perceptual quality of the resulting work. the essence of this exploration involves tectonic thinking and investigating the material’s characteristics.’
