philadelphia based architects austin + mergold developed a unique concept for reusing agricultural silos for living in. their project is dubbed ‘a-house-in-a-can’ and intends to find new uses for unused silos in the us farm belt. the proposal consists of an internal shell which would simply slip into the silo as a prefabricated element. services such as water, plumbing and hydro can then be added in later. to demonstrate the concept austin + mergold prototyped the home using a small tin can with a wooden insert.
