on exhibition from may 16th to june 16th in the bethnal green museum gardens in london, the torus-like ‘peace pavilion’ by AZC atelier zundel cristea offers visitors unexpected experiences with new materials in an urban setting. the inflated PVC symmetrical tube sculpture winds and twists around creating a dynamic curving geometric structure that represents the ideals of peace: ‘harmony, silence, pureness, kindness, happiness, appeasement, calm, reconciliation, serendipity, tranquility.’ a clear membrane is stretched across the outer ring embedded with a regular grid that is visibly warped by its organic nature of double curved surfaces, and creates an irresistible four meter-tall object for children to climb on or adults to sit under.
