in antalya turkey, local practice bahadir kul architects has completed an aquarium for the city’s growing population. in order to ensure a natural transition from the surrounding plaza, the lower level is retracted, creating a shaded public area that protects guests from the region’s hot sun.
externally, the façade references water’s fluid nature, clad with undulating waves of different colors. at ground floor level, the entrance foyer contains visitor information, an amphitheater and dining facilities. a ramp extends towards a public exhibition route, leading guests through a winding sequence of fish tanks culminating with a 131 meter immersive tunnel.
