since 2015, french company baluchon has been building customized tiny houses for people around the world. their latest project is called ala köl — pronounced cool — and was created for a couple (nina and guillaume) who wanted to reference a lake they once visited together in kyrgyzstan. showcasing a contemporary architecture, this tiny house features an off-center ridge with a façade entirely dressed in black aluminum.

the ala köl tiny house by baluchon is accessed through the living room which is equipped with a comfortable sofa and a table that can sit up to four guests. the couple, who enjoys traveling around the world, have placed a wooden world map on this area, reminding them of their many excursions. a small kitchen completes this space, featuring two units made of solid french walnut (the same used for the table and staircase) and includes a fridge, gas stove and oven with four burners. a sink, as well as several drawers and cupboards allow for easy living.

access to the bathroom is via a partition door which has a large, full-length mirror fixed to it. in this room, a 80x80cm shower, a dry toilet and a stainless steel bucket and chip compartment share space with a large wardrobe and washing machine. finally, the staircase with several storage spaces take guests to the mezzanine bedroom where a 140x190cm bed finds place next to a large storage unit.
‘once the construction of the house was completed, nina and guillaume came to pick it up from our workshop,’ comments baluchon. ‘it has been their main home ever since.’
