BaO architects + KJYAO + Pd'AA: busan opera house

beijing-based BaO architects, KJYAO and london-based practice Pd’AA have collaborated to propose ‘opera on the move’, a proposal for the busan opera house international competition for busan, south korea. positioned on a reclaimed island, this performing arts center addresses and incorporates the presence of existing docks by allowing the primary auditorium to detach from the main structure and cast away into the adjacent harbor. possibilities to sail and dock at venues around the world transporting touring theater troupes will produce an iconic symbol for it’s home port city as well as a global phenomenon. parallel in scale to an ocean liner, this mobile performing art center will generate a unique experience for visitors with dynamic views of the busan city skyline or it’s present and transient location.
