the cabin concept project was bartosz‘s entry to ronen bekerman‘s 3d challenge, one of several competitions run by bekerman on his architectural visualization blog. bartosz’s entry ended up winning the challenge which asked designers was to begin by visualising the prefab cabin in a location of their choice.

bartosz chose thorsmork, situated in the south highlands of iceland upon a backdrop of glaciers and striking rock formations, as the tranquil spot to suit his imagination. I envisioned the structure that would never be built in this valley, thus provoking the feeling of some elusive beauty‘, domiczek explains.

that place gave me the possibility to create some plausible scenes which evoke serenity with chilling hints of the raw, untamed and besieging nature’, he continues.there were two sources of inspiration: the first one is the archetype of an ancient shelter with a central fireplace. the second one is about the simplest geometry that contrasts the complexity.’

the cabins themselves are formed as white ephemeral monoliths, contrasting with their organic surrounding. they sit somewhere between the reminiscence of an ancient dwelling built around the fireplace and the idea of nordic gods standing in the row on a mountain ridge.

their simple form is inspired by japanese structures which are typically made of wood and semi-translucent covers of fabric or polycarbonate. inside, the cabin is kitted out with a hammock, dining area, fireplace a raised platform for sleeping.
