bernard desmoulin nestles conference room along lake chalain in france
shaped like a fisherman's house, the structure is partly supported by stilts as if floating above water.

among his numerous references, internationally renowned architect bernard desmoulin completes the humble conference room at the moulin de la forge located on a lake in the french region of vexin. though it may seem like a standard structure, desmoulin uses the familiar language of a fisherman’s house on stilts which resembles a subtle line on a stretch of water — living in harmony with its surrounding nature. the designer’s work process essentially relies on the search for a perfect union between the architecture and its encompassing environment.

desmoulin’s conference room pays tribute to its natural context by using a wooden framework. the final design offers a versatile 300 sqm working space able to gather up to 140 participants. additionally, the large bay windows overlooking the panoramic pond and majestic poplar trees invite the members to contemplate the grace of the landscape — which ultimately contribute to a productive and peaceful work environment.
