designed by the mexican firm bgp arquitectura, ‘casa MTY’ is a house located in the forest of san pedro garza garcía, a city in north part of mexico. the partially-wooded area has recently been developed in 10,000 square-meter lots and follows stringent environmental protection regulations. the rocky and varied topography motivated the project to be developed in a series of boxes that flow between the contours and the surrounding vegetation. the varied layout is linked through a series of textures and independent patios that create an interplay of light and shadow while sheltering the house from the region’s extreme climate.

the architects wanted to give a feeling of volumes being placed in the land while leaving the nature untouched

the house is divided into independent box-shaped volumes, each one accommodating the different living needs. depending on their use and what they host, each one of the volume’s has a different façade material including travertine marble, wood panels, corten steel, u-glass and exposed concrete. the composition is regulated on an orthogonal pattern—without touching a single existing tree—in which the different areas interconnect via glass corridors, creating a promenade through the plot.
