BIG partners bjarke ingels and jakob lange have collaborated with kilo founder lars larsen and creative director jonas hartz in completing ‘llama‘ a new dining establishment in the danish capital of copenhagen. working alongside food group cofoco, the restaurant offers its diners south american cuisine with a menu that features ceviches, anticuchos and uruguayan-style meats.

the previously unused basement has been clad with colorful patterns and fitted out with black furnishings, creating an intimate space that simultaneously feels connected with the city. the walls and floors are lined with handcrafted mexican cement tiles fusing latin designs with scandanavian influences. the interior plan is optimized to seat 180 people two times a night, comprising three different dining spaces, each oriented around the central bar.

‘from an architectural point of view, I think we have created a remarkable transformation – the main idea of merging two cultures has turned an interpretation of a traditional latin american vernacular into a contemporary copenhagen public space,’ observed BIG partner jakob lange.

‘llama is product of a strong creative team with an ambition to crate a strong social space in a span between south america and copenhagen – the flamboyant and the understated merging to create a restaurant with an international feel rooted in scandinavian heritage’, furthered lars larsen, kilo founder and head of design.

  • though you might think that the skull with colors is southamerican, but it is also mexican ( north american, of the huichol ethnia /tribe to be precise, the green ornaments are peyote cactus).

    mariano badaracco says:
  • The restaurant is not as southamerican as you said, is more kinda huichol art, that it is a mexican native culture.

    Eduardo ugalde says:
  • It`s a pretty Egiptian chaos to me… (so far from Mexico or Latin America, check Zööba in Cairo)

    Alejandro Ribadeneira says:
  • Seems like a weak attempt to smuggle a 2 or rather 3 years old Barcelona-vibe into Copenhagen…
