bjarke ingels group (BIG) has revealed plans to build a mixed-use complex in miami’s allapattah neighborhood. the proposal, dubbed ‘miami produce’, will comprise eight buildings that contain a mix of residential, office, hotel, school, retail, and parking. plans have been filed for the ambitious development on stilts, which would be located at northwest 21st and 22nd streets, and between northwest 13th and 12th avenues.

BIG intends to activate the site through a number of different programs, including urban farming, restaurants, storefronts, co-working offices, co-living apartments, and educational programming. at ground level, a series of existing warehouses will be restored to create a vibrant destination. between the warehouses, three public spaces will exhibit a variety of lush landscapes that create diverse microclimates and allow the buildings’ programs to extend outdoors.

‘a stack of linear buildings will float above the existing warehouses, generating a large urban courtyard at the center while forming gateways that open to the surrounding context,’ explain the architects. ‘on top of each building, programmed ‘roofscapes’ extend the public realm vertically and capture stunning views of downtown miami and surrounding neighborhoods.’
