BIG and snøhetta shortlisted for copenhagen hospital project

six teams, including bjarke ingels’ BIG and snøhetta, have been shortlisted to design the framework for a psychiatric hospital to be built in bispebjerg, copenhagen. the 26,900 square foot project involves the completion a new structure adjacent to the existing healthcare facility, significantly expanding the current site. the unifying design will bring together the city’s various amenities, providing for 850 employees and 90,000 annual visits.

by mid-2015, the teams will be whittled down to three, before the winning design is chosen in early 2016.

 

the architecture and design must support a more efficient workflow, so psychiatry at bispebjerg can provide a continuity of care through high quality and an attractive workplace. buildings should also ensure that all arriving in psychiatry, feel expected and welcome, whether you the patient, relatives, staff, visitors or students,’ commented martin lund, director of mental health services.

 

the project is set to break ground in summer 2018, with completion targeted for the end of 2022.
