exploring the themes of boundary and nature, facet studio have completed the development of a hair and beauty salon located at the heart of sydney, australia’s bustling chinatown district. ‘blu creativity’ is designed to provide relaxation and comfort, offering its clientele a temporary escape from city life.

rather than opaque solid walls, porous and semi-transparent partitions are used, blurring the divisions of space and contributing towards a tranquil and calming environment. additionally, this enables daylight to infiltrate the entirety of the interior, minimizing the amount of artificial lighting required.

the project enjoys a close relationship with nature, not only through the use of greenery and small scale plantation, but through more subtle solutions implemented within the design. in particular, translucent curtains, used to partially delineate the scheme’s program, capture the movement of air circulated by overhead fans, ensuring that this natural occurrence is made visible.
