this car park in zwolle, the netherlands, takes its cues from a caravanserai, an inn that provides travelers with shelter for the night in regions of asia and north africa. designed by dok architects, the building features a brick facade of five different patterns that create a dreamy atmosphere when accentuated by spotlights after sunset.

the architects achieved a truly sustainable design with 800 sqm of solar panels on the car park’s roof and a smart routing system that limits needless emission of exhaust fumes. energy-efficient LED lighting system only turns on when it tracks activity, while 28 charging points allow visitors to charge their cars. green hanging plants cover the rear facade and nesting and shelter spots for swallows and bats can be found all around the building.
