Brooks + Scarpa builds yellow pavilion in Florida

Nestled in Pompano Beach, Florida, the Youth Sports Complex is a vibrant pavilion designed by the American architectural firm Brooks + Scarpa. Designed to be the central hub of the park, the structure offers essential amenities like concessions, offices, and restrooms in a concrete design. Its lively yellow archways add a playful touch, inviting passers-by to come closer and explore what’s behind this facade. On its other side, a yellow lattice screen outlines a semi-outdoor patio, providing a shady spot for relaxation and socializing. The folding roof design facilitates the capture of breezes from the East, providing natural ventilation for both the porch and interior spaces of the Youth Sports Complex.

adaptable design enhances Comfort and Sustainability

Visitors can utilize the space either as a gathering area or as a shelter from inclement weather. Its flexible design includes provisions for future expansion, with plans to integrate multipurpose spaces that extend the porch area. The architects at Brooks + Scarpa have crafted the shell from board-formed concrete, forming a whimsical and sculptural facade. Beneath the porch, high-velocity fans serve as cooling stations for athletes and spectators alike. Additionally, features such as a sloped roof direct rainwater into a nearby rain garden, reducing the reliance on excessive irrigation. Functional design elements, such as cut-outs in the facade, enhance the viewing experience of the fields from concession areas and offices.
