building pictures presents the renovation of a school surrounded by trees in porto

a short film by building pictures reveals a new space for learning and play, designed by CREA arquitectos in porto city center. as the camera pans over the school, the piece takes viewers on a journey through the project, from the tree-covered outdoor space to the carefully renovated interiors of escola bom sucesso.

the project by CREA arquitectos saw the careful renovation of existing buildings to create a modern school community and the new barbosa du bocage kindergarden. the architectural intervention reorders the relationship between the building and the street, and shapes a new outdoor playground space. 

the project also focuses on the integration of natural light throughout all the spaces. east facing rooms gain daylight in the morning, while a new multipurpose courtyard allows light to penetrate deep into the floor plan. this ochre-colored outdoor playground becomes a hub of activity for the children, facilitating play and social interaction, and framed by treetops to the south to provide plenty of shade in the hot summer months.
