CONNECTING REGIONAL PRACTICES WITH INTERNATIONAL JURORS

Built99 gathers 99 selected architectural studios in New Delhi on November 14, 2026, marking the live culmination of its inaugural edition. Titled ‘India, in Global Conversation,’ the event translates months of regional analysis and international evaluation into an in-person forum alongside editors and jurors from designboom and ArchDaily. Conceived as an active dialogue connecting Indian architecture and design practice with global design institutions, the gathering sets aside standard award ceremonies to examine the foundational ideas, material ethics, and critical impact driving each practice’s portfolio.

TRADING THE PODIUM FOR CRITICAL TABLE TALK

Held at New Delhi’s ITC Maurya, the Built99‘s event departs from traditional award galas in favor of an intimate sit-down dinner structured around direct conversation. Keynote reflections by editors from designboom and ArchDaily frame the evening as an open forum for critical exchange between Indian practitioners and international observers. Alongside the discussions, the inaugural Built99 Coffee Table Book makes its debut, documenting the projects, research, and built works of the 99 selected architecture and design studios in a permanent print edition.

CURATED CRITERIA AND INTERNATIONAL MEDIA PARTNERSHIPS

The assembly marks the culmination of an intensive curatorial cycle that began in early 2026 through a nomination-only selection process designed to protect curatorial integrity. An international jury comprising Martin Zelger and Iñaki Laguardia of DAAily Platforms, Timo Behrend of designboom, and Susanna Moreira of ArchDaily evaluated practices based on a minimum decade of sustained regional engagement. Nominated studios were assessed on how their built work, research, methods, and provocations contribute to architectural thought, measured across five foundational criteria: spatial clarity, contextual intelligence, material and construction ethics, civic impact, and long-term relevance.

Beyond the New Delhi gathering, Built99 extends into a year-round editorial initiative across international and regional media. Dedicated Built99 digital guides on designboom and ArchDaily anchor global coverage of the selected practitioners, supported by features across Indian publications including Forbes India, Fortune India, Robb Report, Hello! Magazine, and GoodHomes. Planned as an annual registry, the platform will continue to document evolving regional practices through a cumulative archive, future research frameworks, and residencies, situating contemporary architecture and design from the Global South within long-term international discourse.
