swiss architecture studio bunq architectes construct ‘NCIS’ as a detached house overlooking a vineyard near valeyres-sous-rances, switzerland. not wanting to disrupt the sloping site, the edifice is built with a compact plan on four staggered levels. one enters from above and descends into the living spaces. the stair is centrally located within the design, allowing the bedrooms to be built half a storey higher than the main common room. simultaneously, the circulation divides the sleeping area from the bathrooms.  the separation of shared and private is read in the massing of the dwelling. two individual peaks define each of these programmatic volumes. the saw-tooth style roof then allows light to flood the livingroom and kitchen from above. large picture windows open the home to expansive views of the verdant valley in one direction, and the monumental alps in the other. the building’s small footprint seems large and spacious with high ceilings, light finishes, and ample apertures. warm wooden paneling that mimics the proportions of the cast in place concrete structure completes the interior. in contrast, the exterior is faced with small wooden shingles that blend naturally with the landscape.
