C house offers a private courtyard space by adrian bonomi
sandwiched between two weatherboard houses, the ‘c house’ by australian architect adrian bonomi, has been carefully crafted to give its inhabitants a sense of privacy, while at the same time opening to the outside. defying the compact nature of the site, the house feels spacious due to its varying geometric forms. marked by an angular entrance on the street front, the building follows an unusual transition from public to private spaces. there is a direct connection from the interior rooms to the private outdoor spaces, that helps to filter light through at all times of the day. an undulating beam runs horizontally along the side of the main corridor, helping to join these areas together. wooden slats are used throughout, creating a warm, natural aesthetic, while offering a visual contrast to the marble kitchen and white walls. the considered application of these materials reflects the attention to detail in ‘c house’.
