designed by santiago-based studio cazú zegers arquitectura, ‘casa soplo’ or the whisper house has been conceived as a pavilion open to the mountainous landscape in chile. after a visit to bilboa, the architect was influenced by the richard serra sculpture at the famous guggenheim museum. this was inevitably translated into the scheme through the use of curving outer concrete walls. ‘the curves are resolved using a double system of golden ratio, allowing us to form the shapes of the whisper.’ comments the architect.

the family residence is framed by the cerro manquehue mountains with the form outlining a homogeneous façade – its neighbor is designed by architect luis izquierdo – and together, sits as a subtle continuation of one another. described as an urban villa, the garden has been established as a continuation to the rural landscape situated on a curving terrace system that follows a similar dialogue to the fluid concrete walls from the entrance.

the contemporary interior is a response in creating a dialogue between architecture and sculpture. featuring two main circulation spaces, one at the rear and the other open to the landscape. none of the partitioning walls touch the outer windows in order to keep the hierarchy of space undefined. ‘in this house, the inhabitants flows between indoors and outdoors, horizontal and vertical, allowing the 1400 m2 of the site to become infinite, with endless possibilities.’
