like rings of overlapping ribbons, the green places community clubhouse in tainan, taiwan has been designed as a ‘living being’. the distinctive building which sits surrounded by its own private water feature, serves as a shared space for the community. facilities include restaurant dining, library, gym and spaces for events, education and gathering. natural elements have been brought into the building not only through its décor, but with the landscaping. the result is a harmonious environment where users are in constant contact with nature.

keng-fu lo of chain 10 urban space design led the development of the nature-immersed scheme. the floors are stacked as a series of free-flowing curves to reflect the rippling of water in the pond underneath, and the varied surfaces raised at different heights also promote a sense of exploration and movement.

the use of glazing breaks spatial barriers and invites views of nature. in terms of over-exposure to sun due to the building’s westerly positioning, a solid wall has been constructed to reduce overheating. a ketone resin which is used on the envelope to prevent the possibility of mold while providing waterproofing and sufficient air circulation. the gaps between the anodized aluminum panels and walls helps with the indoor cooling system and further provides a comfortable environment for the clubhouse’s diverse activities.
