sloping downwards with the natural topography of the site, the ‘kindergarten kita’ by bulgarian studio conveyer merges an angular fence with the building. tilting to one side, the façade, which appears to be cut-off at ground level, eventually wraps itself over the pitched roof to form one structure. located in sofia, bulgaria the design consists of three distinct elements – the ‘red house’ for a group of 15 children, the ‘yellow house’ for a group of 25 children with a common enclosure – and the folding exterior ‘screen’ made from corrugated sheets of metal tiles.

situated between the two volumes is a central foyer space, which functions as the main distribution point, and is also where the children access the wardrobe area. the double-height interior is organized around the the groups’ separate play and sleeping zones. the divided functions are stacked above one another, enabling both sides to have equal exposure to the courtyard and facilitating high-levels of interaction through a joining stairwell. the exterior landscaping is also spread across two levels – it follows the natural fall of the land, with the difference used to incorporate slides and climbing frames into the green ledges.
