coop himmelb(l)au has revealed initial plans for ATMOS, a selfness resort for cystic fibrosis patients. located on the mediterranean coast, the composition of the scheme’s 132 apartments relates closely to the concept behind crete’s knossos palace, with private housing units, public gardens, and generous courtyards embedded into the landscape. the healthcare aspect of the project would offer help and relaxation to those with cystic fibrosis as well and their relatives.

ATMOS has been initiated by wolf d. prix of coop himmelb(l)au and chris müller, the CEO and founder of CMb.industries, and the director of development, design & artist issues at creative hub tabakfabrik linz. müller is also the father of a child with cystic fibrosis. the retreat has been conceived as a ‘sparkling emblem’ of good living, as well as an incubator for innovation, and a symbol of hope. rather than temporary relaxation and well-being, the resort seeks to change lives in more lasting ways.

intended as a source of creativity, ATMOS promotes pioneering spirit, entrepreneurship, and humanity. the resort combines the amenities of a wellness retreat, the versatility of a sporting complex, and space for work to create a completely original destination. the development caters to a range of requirements, with occupants able to use the resort as their company’s headquarters, a weekend apartment, or a luxurious chalet. tourists and visitors are able to determine the length and type of their stay.

five permanently available suites are furnished specifically for the needs of cystic fibrosis patients and their relatives. a dedicated team ensures medical support along with advanced therapy options. set within an ideal climate, the resort creates an atmosphere that allows patients and guests to breathe deeply and easily. the stay and medical offers at ATMOS are provided to cystic fibrosis patients and their relatives free of charge, financed by the operation of the selfness resort.
